St Gregory the Great Catholic School

A Catholic School which champions each and every student

Partnerships and Charities

St Gregory’s supports many local, national and international charities each year.  Some of these are chosen by the Students for a one-off charitable event, others are an ongoing annual commitment where strong relationships are formed between the Charities and the school.

CAFOD are the official aid agency for the Catholic Church in England and Wales and have a presence in 165 countries. CAFOD reach out to people living in hard-to-reach places, in war zones and those who are discriminated against.

They believe, as we do, that if one of us is hurt, hungry or abandoned, we all are hurt, hungry and abandoned. No one should be beyond the love and support they need to live a dignified life.  Susan Kambalu the Secondary inset Co-ordinator is a great friend of the school and a regular visitor!

Each year Students learn about CAFOD campaigns in their Chaplaincy RE lesson.  They lobby and campaign for causes they feel passionate about, for example, we Joined CAFOD to Lobby our PM’s over climate change in June 2019.

  • Students are given two opportunities in Advent and Lent to be a part of the Hunger lunch. Students choose a simple soup lunch rather than their normal school dinner and donate their normal lunch money to CAFOD in solidarity with the poor.
  • Through Lent Assemblies students learn about the importance of Sacrifice and many give up something for Lent and donate the equivalent amount to CAFOD.
  • In January 2019 the whole of the DMBAC staff came together for a teaching day delivered by CAFOD on Catholic Social Teaching.
