Transition from Year 6
We are delighted to welcome you to St Gregory the Great School and are very excited about your secondary school journey with us starting in September. Our mission is to know our students well, to teach great lessons and to be ambitious and care for everyone. We endeavour to ensure that every student is fully equipped for their post-16 studies and beyond.
At St Gregory’s we have dedicated and passionate staff who are ambitious for all of our students, an inclusive learning environment to meet the needs of all of our students, thriving students who are happy and healthy and a creative and fun curriculum for learning and broadening and deepening knowledge. We pride ourselves on our excellent and caring pastoral system. Every student has a tutor who is their key worker, a year leader and also a pastoral manager who is a non-teaching member of staff and therefore, readily available to students for support when it is needed.
It can be a big change to join a new school and so we are pleased to invite you to get to know us before you arrive through the Year 7 transition days. For some of you it may be a new experience to be in a Catholic school so please ask any questions. Hopefully, you will be joining us on our camping trip in September as this is another opportunity to get to know people in your year group.
You should have all received a transition pack packed with lots of useful information for September, however, if you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Otherwise, I am really looking forward to meeting and welcoming your families to St Gregory’s in September.
Ms Lyndsey Caldwell
Virtual Tour of the School
Please watch our welcome video which gives you an insight and virtual tour of St Gregory's. We hope to see you before the summer, but if you have any questions at all in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us.
During the first week of the summer holidays, the St Gregory the Great transition team ran their first summer school for those children starting at St Gregory’s in September 2021.
We received £8,640.99 funding from the Department for Education and our thanks go to them for making the summer school possible. We spent nearly 60% of this on making the days memorable through activities which encouraged learning, team working, sport and of course, preparing shared meals in the fantastic food technology classroom.
The weather (and the Covid situation) was kind to us and we based our summer school in a large marquee on the central grass area in the school. Staff were led by Miss Barnes, our Transition Lead.
The children had the opportunity to meet and work with staff from all areas of the school; Miss Millar from English with Drama, Mr Dillon from Science, Miss Barnes, Mr Hoskins and Mr Fourie from PE, Mr Reidy from our Humanities team and our fantastic librarian, Miss Brooks. All of the children who came learned about their new life at St Gregory’s and how we use Catholic faith teachings to give value to everything we do. The children have started a living legacy in the work they did to improve the Peace Garden – thank you.
